It's that time of year again, the end of 2017 is almost upon us.
If you have received a notice stating you have been selected for a random DOT drug or alcohol screening, please proceed to the assigned collection site immediately.
As per stated in DOT Part 40, ALL DOT regulated safety sensitive positions must be enrolled in a random drug and alcohol testing program, commonly referred to as a consortium.
Consortium/Third-party administrator (C/TPA). A service agent that provides or coordinates the provision of a variety of drug and alcohol testing services to employers. C/TPAs typically perform administrative tasks concerning the operation of the employers' drug and alcohol testing programs. This term includes, but is not limited to, groups of employers who join together to administer, as a single entity, the DOT drug, and alcohol testing programs of its members. C/TPAs are not "employers" for purposes of this part.*
Random selections may include drug and/or alcohol testing.
If you have been selected for any DOT alcohol test, please ensure you are being tested on
Evidential Breath Testing (EBT) devices listed on the NHTSA conforming products list (CPL). These are the only devices you may use to conduct alcohol confirmation tests under 49 CFR Part 40. Also, ensure your specimens are analyzed in a
SAMHSA certified laboratory and reviewed by a licensed Medical Review Officer.
Once notified, proceeding to the collection site as soon as possible will help you avoid penalties, and fines regarding DOT compliance.
